Landmarks in inguinal hernia

Midinguinal point is the landmark for femoral artery which can be drawn from asis to pubic symphysis.

Midpoint of inguinal ligament...midpoint from asis to pubic tubercle. In which abbout 1.5 cm above it is the landmark of deep inguinal ring which forms inguinal canal. This landmark is useful for occlusion test in determin'g if it can be restrained...hence distinguising direct hernia from indirect hernia.

Or in operation, they can be distinguished  in relation to inferior epigastric vessel IEV 
If occur medial to IEV, most likely  direct. Lateral, indirect.
